Who is Murphy?
Gabriella Erin Murphy (G.E.M.) also known as Murphy, was born in Cape Town, South Africa.
From a young age she loved to be around music and especially when someone was playing the piano. Her eyes would light up every time someone would play the piano and at kindergarten, she was often seen with the music teacher at the piano watching her fingers as she stroked the keys.
She started music lessons at a very young age and the piano has always been her instrument of choice. Playing and composing music has always made her very happy. At primary school she was part of the choir and often won music awards year after year. This is where she composed her first song which was played at the Music Concert. At high school she was involved with the school band and here, once again, she was part of bringing enjoyment to so many and even being part of the school band winning competitions.
She has also been a part of the worship team in her local church, playing on Sundays and mentoring young people as well as passing on her musical and life skills to those around her.
Giving back has been high on her agenda as could be seen with her involvement with Life Matters, an organisation which helps learners in underprivileged areas and aims to help in instilling a love for education. Here Gabriella would use her musical gift to transport the learners, for that moment in time, to a place where anything seemed possible. Year after year she would be invited back to inspire these learners.
Gabriella has shown that with dedication, hard work and a desire to chase after your dream, anything is possible. She has left the comforts of home, travelled miles in the pursuit of what today is a reality – A degree in music composition.
Graduated with a degree in Music Composition from Azusa Pacific University in May 2022, she will continue to touch people’s lives through her music, and her love for making people happy will continue through her song writing and performances as she pursues her dream to reach to even greater heights.
